New technologies such as time-sensitive networking (TSN) can be used to overcome IIoT challenges. It provides real-time communications and true determinism across a wide area network. Information modeling technologies such as OPC UA can utilize this real-time capability to improve machine performance inside and outside the machine. They meet the needs of the OT group and add necessary levels of security to accommodate the IT groups, thus helping to make IT/OT convergence a reality. This talk will address these technologies and show how they may be combined to meet the business and performance needs of modern factories.

Paul Didier is a Solutions Architect Manager for Cisco® System’s IoT Business Group. He is responsible for developing solutions for the Industrial Automation including Manufacturing, Utilities, Oil&Gas and Mining verticals. Paul represents Cisco at the Open Device Vendor Association’s (ODVA) Technical Review Board, the OPC Foundation, the AVnu Alliance and the Industrial Internet Consortium (IIC). He has over 25 years of industry experience. Paul authored the Cisco and Rockwell Automation Converged Plant-wide Ethernet (CPwE) Design and Implementation guide, a Cisco Validated Design (CVD). Paul works extensively with key Automation and Control partners such as BoschRexroth, Rockwell Automation, National Instruments, Honeywell, Emerson, Yokogawa, Schneider Electric and General Electric.
Prior to joining Cisco, Paul was an IT Infrastructure expert at Accenture for 16 years and an IT Manager for SAP for 2 years. He has extensive experience working for Manufacturing, Retail and Financial Services clients. He has developed and deployed large enterprise IT applications on a global scale.
Phil Marshall, the CEO of Hilscher North America, has been a leading voice in the field of Industrial communications since 1985 and is an expert in Ethernet, fieldbus and network technologies. Prior to founding Hilscher North America in 2002, he held management positions with Siemens, SST, Synergetic Micro Systems, Contemporary Control Systems, Inc. and Nematron. Hilscher specializes in products, technologies and services for industrial communications and the Internet of Things. Phil holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Operations Management and Information Systems.
