A collaborative robot is defined by what it’s doing and where it’s doing it rather than by the robot itself. Purposely designed robots work in direct cooperation with a human within a defined workspace, or in a collaborative workspace where the robot and a human can perform tasks simultaneously during production operation.

This presentation by Pat Davison, director of standards development at RIA, details collaborative robotics applications, safety and risk considerations, power and force limits and new guidance.
